Hi,
I'm Kara. Mom of five, grandma of 2, and wife of a retired Navy officer who is still at work in the civilian sector. I haven't yet figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I'm getting kind of excited thinking about it, since my youngest just graduated and our nest is close to empty. I'm a prolific reader of fluff. I love to write, and to travel. I like to live overseas even more than I like to travel, but don't manage to pull it off nearly often enough. I spend more time than is practical chasing sunsets in lonely places. The mountains are my happy place, crowds are not, and the biggest surprise in my life is that I've become a lover of trees. To my husband's dismay, I am now the Lorax.
I am a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I believe in Jesus Christ. I depend upon him every day. He sustains me, and leads me through my wonderful and often messy life.
Our family tree is brimming with learning differences: Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD. You name it. Throw in the (these days) ever present anxiety and depression too. We're an interesting lot. Health challenges have been a thing for us too. We seem to specialize in the rare or difficult to figure out.
I think each person has their own talents that they can develop, and they can use those to bless the lives of others. We all have our own challenges too. I think sometimes, when it comes to learning differences, the bigger the challenge, the bigger the gifts. I see that so clearly in my kids. Now if I can just believe it for myself too.
My secret dream is to have a super organized house cleaner and a gardener. However, I am open to the reality that it may never happen, and I CAN improve at both myself. At least I keep telling myself that, as I often dodge those things that I stink at, and sneak down to the basement to write, or to the corner of the couch with a good book. These days I'm running off to do Pilates too. So there's one new feather in my newly self-emancipated cap.
